This cell represents the French and Indian war. The French and Indian war was the reason why Great Britain taxed the colonies, because they had to pay to keep the army in North America. They also were in a lot of debt, and they saw that taxing the colonies was a way to earn money.
The Boston Tea Party
When the Parliament put the Stamp Act on the colonies people started to get angry. The Stamp Act put taxes on all papers and official documents. However this act was not placed in England.
The First Continental Congress
The Boston Massacre happened on March 5th 1770. It started with one British and a few American colonists. The colonists started to throw sticks and rocks at him. The British soldier was told not to fire until someone yelled fire. Supposedly someone yelled fire so the soldier started to fire. This turned into a bloody massacre.
Declaring Independence
When the Tea Act was placed colonist had enough and they decided to do something about it. Colonists dressed up as Indians and dumped 342 chests/barrels of tea, brought by the British East India Company into the Harbor.
A series of Intolerable acts passed by the British parliament in the spring of 1774 provoked anger in the colonies, leading to the making of the first Continental Congress by the colonial committees of correspondence.
On July 4th the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of independence that stated that the 13 colonies were going to separate from Great Britain.
