- Rumors spread that the new rifle cartridges that the British manufactured used animal fats to grease the bullets. To open the cartridges, one had to rip the paper with their mouth, getting the animal fats in one's mouth. This caused mass outrage because it's against both Islam and Hinduism.
- Because the Indians felt this violated their beliefs, they decided to do something to counter what the British had done. They decided to employ a mutiny against the British colonists.
- Despite the widespread rebellion against the racist manufacturing within the Indian state, the sepoys were ultimately unsuccessful in their efforts.
