- Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron displays the ridiculous idea that society would be better if everyone was somehow made equal.These scenes depict that something as beautiful as dancing should be spoiled and not enjoyed because it could cause some to become jealous of that gift.They also show that one could get used to something even if it is ridiculous.The author then uses the escape from prison to show that people will be afraid of someone in this type of society who hasn't just accepted their handicaps.Someone who actually stands up to all of the absurdity may start thinking they are in charge and start calling themselves Emperor.Finally, the death scene shows the lengths authority will go to, including killing, to stop nonconformity.
