But then my husband left us, destitute, which left my girls extremely sad. Although I did try to keep up appearances for our neighbors.
Then I met a wonderful man, who made us very happy.
I do
We got married, and I gained a step-daughter, named Ella.
I do
We became one happy family.
Welcome home!
Suddenly, my second husband died.
Father!
Because we had no steady income, I was forced to fire the loyal staff.
Would you be willing to help with chores? You do not have to.
I will.
Every morning, Ella would get up and work.
And it soon became the norm for Ella to work.
Ella do you . . .
I was going to ask if she wanted a break. But she ignored me.
It seemed the more she worked, the more she despised me.
I don't require any of my daughters to work! Ella just always does!I can't figure out why Ella doesn't like me!
One spring morning, there was a knock at the door.
A letter for the head of the house. Courtesy of the royal family.
You and two members of your family are cordially invited to attend the Grand Ball at the Palace, taking place a week from today. Please come in a formal style of dress.
TWO!!!?
WAIT!
SIR!
Sir! I am sorry to bother you, but I have three daughters! I cannot simply leave one at home! I must have another ticket!
The Palace can only hold so many people. Would you want to be the one who makes the royal family uncomfortable?
What do I tell the girls? How can I pick which one stays home?
What did it say?
I saw a letter with the King's seal!
Me!
ME!
But . . .only three of us can go.
Yeah.
It doesn't seem like she wants to go.
Ella?
I called a tailor for me and my daughters. If Ella didn't want to go, that's fine with me.
I'm going to check on Ella
I hope I get to meet the Prince!
I'm SO excited!
Ella, we're leaving. While we're gone can you finish your chores?
Why is she ignoring me?
We arrived at the Palace. The place was lit up by the moonlight. My girls had never been happier.
Later in the evening, my oldest, Anastasia, was asked to dance, by none other, than the Prince himself.
YES!
Would you like to dance?
They danced for a while, but then the Prince's attention turned to another girl, coming down the Palace steps.
Who is that?!
There was a beautiful girl, standing there. She seemed familiar. And the Prince could not keep his eyes off her.
The Prince walked up to her, held out his hand, and asked her to dance.
May I have this dance?
They danced the night away. Anastasia ran back to me, crying. I tried my best to comfort her, but she was crushed.
It seemed that the Prince was falling in love with this mystery girl. My heart sank as I realized I had failed to secure the Prince for Anastasia. She might never be happy again.
But then the clock hit midnight. And the girl sprinted out of the castle, leaving nothing but a glass slipper.
Wait! I don't even know your name!
After this incident, it was hard to enjoy the ball, so my daughters and I headed home.
When we got home, I went to check on Ella. She seemed out of breath, like she'd been running. What had she done? Anyway, I was tired, so I turned in for the night.
I woke to the sound of royal trumpets outside the house. I hurried to get ready and yelled at the girls to make themselves presentable. And of course, I let the Prince in.
I'm looking for the girl I danced with last night. May I see if this shoe fits your daughter?
Of course Your Highness!GIRLS!
The Prince is here to find the girl he danced with last night. He's brought that TINY glass slipper the mystery girl dropped. We NEED that shoe to fit one of you. When you're Queen you will not have to walk on your feet. Anastasia, let me cut off your toe, Drizella, I'm cutting off your heel.
Move to part 2 :)
