JK Rowling came uo with the idea of ´Harry Potter´ while taking a train back to London on her own. The 4 hours that she spent on the train gave her enough time to think about ideas for her book. Little did she know that book would become one of the most popular and influential franchises on the world.
Convergence: The Big Screen
She gave life to the Hogwarts, a wizarlding world where pure-blood, half-blood, and muggle-born wizards go to complete their magical studies and get sorted into four hourses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Now a days, there´s millions of online quizzes that help you get sorted in the house you most likely belong to based on your personality, or discover what your Patronus is, or even what type of wand you would own.
More of the Franchise
After she wrote and published her first book titled: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer´s Stone, it was a chain of publishing one book after the other for a time lapse of 10 years and a total of 7 books (without mentioning the spinoffs and other novels published within the HP universe).
Harry Potter's Influence in Social Media
Harry Potter didn't stop at just being published books. The first book was published in 1997, and 4 years later in 2001, the first movie based on the first book was released. By 2001, the first 4 books of the franchise had already been published, and the HP Cinematic Universe will continue to go until 2011, when the last movie based on the last book published in 2007 was released.
The Franchise became so popular, that multiple stores aorund the world inspired in this ethereal universe were created, selling different types of merchandise and souvenirs that would typically appear in both the books and the movies; such as their uniforms at Hogwarts (robes), wands, souvenirs of the 4 houses, brooms, potions, interactive toys, decorations, board games etc.
Even if the last movie came out a decade ago, Harry Potter continues to be one of the most popular things ever created, and therefore, it has a huge fanbase that is still pretty active in social media, especially in the apps of Tumblr, Twitter, and Tik Tok. Memes are still created and passed around, and the HP fanbase in Tik Tok is really popular. One of the characters (Draco Malfoy) even has a term for videos especifically made about him (DracoTok).
