- Hyper-savants who help the companies bottom line are not the only people with Autism that deserve a job.
- Companies have started to make the work place more welcoming. Using preferred language and understanding some of the difficulties that can come from the hiring process
- It is important that companies realize that everyone has some sort of need and 'Inclusion measures after they're through the door are really essential. As well as before they come through the door' (76)
- Breaking through stereotypes in the work place is challenging. It takes the worker, work place, policy to make it work.
- Weather it is institution, group/living communities, living with parents or a room mate many people still feel it is necessary that people with Autism are secluded from independence for their own good
- While society is moving pass the institutionalization of people with disablities. We are moving towards supportive living in order to provide needed supports and what people deem best for the individual.
- Recent government policy has help aid the push for Home- and community based living through federal Aid. It has also aided in granting those with disabilities autonomy over decision with supported decision making opposed to guardianship on the state level.
- At the end of the day you are the one thing in life you can control. However only able-bodied people have this luxuary. For those with a disability one mistake could revoke your right of autonomy because of past precendent. (108)
- While the Autistic mortality rate is higher than the general population spends over half of their funding looking at the biology and risk factors for autism
- The first and largest funded thought of Autism is the medical model. Which indicated there is something wrong with the person and we need to fix/cure it.
- We are not yet past the medical model when it comes to medicial care for people with Autism.
- The gold standard for Autism treatment is Applied Behavior analysis which monitors and tries to correct Autistic traits.
