Hi! My name is Sean. Let me tell you a little about why I Teach.
Wow! This is cool!
When I was growing up, I loved history and languages. I wanted to explore the world and know why things worked the way they did. I loved sharing what I learned with others.
When I was in high school, I had two very good teachers. One was named Ms. Nicolaysen, she made learning things fun. She also how to use what I knew to make the world a better place.
At college, I studied history and languages. I learned many lessons that people could use to make better decisions. I wish someone had cared enough to share these with me when I was younger.
If only young people understood how the world works earlier, they could really make their lives better.
So I became a teacher, and tried to help students see the consequences of their decisions, so that they could make better decisions and have happier lives.
I don't care about history and Latin. How does that help me? I want to play Fortnight!
My first big class was tough. I had four preps and was overwhelmed. I focused on teaching the material, rather than getting to know my students. They had a hard time connecting to the material.
I quickly learned that students won't care how much you know, until they know how much you care.
I'm not connecting with my students well. I should compliment my students more, do more interesting activities, and games to help then enjoy learning these lessons. I should make my class more like Ms. Nicolaysen's class.
LOL! That activity was really fun! I really learned a lot in it.
That was almost as much fun as Fortnight, Mr. Pyne.
Thank you so much, Mr. Pyne. This was the best class. I learned so much this year, and it didn't even feel like school. It felt like our class was a bunch of friends learning together.
At the end of the year, my students told me how much they had learned and enjoyed learning about Latin and history.
Teaching well is about making a difference in the lives of young people. It's about showing them that they are cared about and giving them the skills to become better people. Seeing that happen is amazing, and that's why I teach.
