To keep it short, it tells the story of the Du family as they moved into a new apartment. However, things didn't seem to go so well. The daughter got sick, the father's career was stagnant, and he started to have frequent arguments with his wife.
In the end, the father followed a cult leader to help cure his daughter. His wife left him because of his obsession and his daughter ended up dying from a ritual he performed.
In my opinion, this is a very compelling narrative as it deploys traditional Chinese religious imagery, supernatural literary themes, and sometimes gruesome experiences to explore issues of family, guilt, and redemption. Those aspects give Devotion a layer of sorrow that not many horror game has.

As mentioned briefly before, this game has a lot of references to East Asian cultures, specifically to both Chinese and Taiwanese cultures. Taiwanese culture is rich on the religious aspect, where people still worship deities and include religious elements in their everyday life. Much of the religious imagery in the game is encountered in the apartment, such as talismans and a home shrine. The game's narrative structure also enables a clear introduction to the culture.
