- Ichabod Crane is the schoolteacher in Sleepy Hollow, a town where not much ever happens. The people in this town are obsessed with ghosts
- During a party in which the young master plans to reveal his love to the young Katrina, the daughter of a rich landowner, she does not reciprocate Crane, instead she chooses another man, Brom Bones.
- Frustrated Ichabond decides to leave the party; In the middle of the night and the loneliness of the road he meets for the first time a mysterious horseman who seems to have no head. 
- In the midst of his fear and surprise, the phantasmagorical horseman chases him through the open field until he is hunted down,
- The next night, Ichabod had mysteriously disappeared from town, allowing Katrina to marry Brom.
- But in the middle of the wedding, Ichabod appeared and shouted from the rooftops that the Headless Horseman was Katrina's father. Amidst the commotion, Katrina's father accepted that it was true, he wanted Katrina to marry Brom so he could benefit from the marriage. That was why he went after Ichabod.
