Julia Alveraz(The Narrator), The Narraraters Family came from the Dominican Republic seeking sanctuary from their ruthless dictator in AmericaThemother loved using her notepad to create practical inventions using things around her house
Climax
she found out that someone created her invention, so she stopped inventing until her daughter was in 9th grade and was asked to write a poem to present in front of the teachers and students of her school
Falling Action
She was anxious and didn't know what to write until she read one of Whitman's poems and felt inspired by its style resulting with her being able to write her poem
Resolution
She read the poem to her dad, but he didn't like it and ended up ripping it apart due to it supposedly being disrespectful. The narrator was mad and called her father Chapita causing him to become outraged
Her mother goes to comfort her and helps her rewrite her poem using her typewriter in a more respectful way
The narrator reads her poem and her teachers praise her for it. Then her father apologetically buys her her own typewriter further more solving the conflict
