- Texas had some pretty big problems with the Law of April 6, 1830, at this point, so they made a list of grievances and elected Stephen F. Austin to deliver it to the Mexican government. The list of grievances included:Want exemption from taxes for three yearsWant to resume immigration from the U.S.Wanted Texas to be a separated state from Mexico
- Stephen F. Austin arrived in Mexico, and the list of grievances was shown to the Mexican government. In response, however, they did not directly inform Austin if Texas could be a separate state from Mexico or not, so he mailed Texas to go ahead and make that happen. However, they turned on him and showed the mail to the Mexican government, and he was charged for treason and arrested for 1 year. Austin exits jail feeling furious.
- The provisional government of the state of Texas was in formation at the time, and Mexico did not like that Texas was trying to govern itself.
