Once upon a time, there was a king named Minos who was very powerful and cruel. He had a maze called a labyrinth, At the center of the labyrinth was where he kept a huge, terrifying creature called the Minotaur, who was half-man, half-bull.
King Minos would always go to the village of Athens and attack them. But then he proposed a deal to the king of Athens. King Minos would be sent 7 boys and 7 girls to the island of Crete to be eaten by the Minotaur each year and he wouldn't come to Athens and attack them. The king of Athens' only choice was to agree.
Prince Theseus, son of the king of Athens, was very sad to see the boys and girls going to the island of Crete every year to be eaten by the Minotaur. So one year, he decided that he was going to kill the Minotaur and put himself as the 7th boy going to Crete. His father was unhappy to see him go.
Once Theseus arrived on the island of Crete, King Minos began taunting and humiliating him. Princess Ariadne, the daughter of Minos, stood behind her father, listening. Once she saw Theseus, she fell in love with him. After hearing her father's cruel words to the prince, Ariadne decided that she would help him.
Princess Ariadne met with Theseus and provided him a sword and a ball of yarn. She told him to use the sword to kill the Minotaur and to tie the yarn to the door and unroll it as he moved through the maze. Theseus thanked Ariadne for her assistance.
The next morning, the 14 boys and girls, including Theseus, were taken to the maze to be eaten by the Minotaur. As Ariadne instructed, Theseus tied the yarn to the door and unrolled it as we went through the maze. When he reached the center of the labyrinth, he was greeted by the Minotaur. Theseus fought courageously and eventually killed the Minotaur.
