- Hello! We are in Albany, this is where the Erie Canal stared.
- The Erie Canal is a trade route which made it easier and quicker to transport goods. It also helped with manifest destiny to move west
- I am on the Erie Canal headed to Buffalo, The Erie Canal is 4 feet deep, 40 feet wide, and 364 miles long.
- To power the boats, there were horses and mules along side the canal on a path, pulling the boats along. There was also pulleys and levers to lift the boats when the water level changed.
- While building the canal, there were thousands of people working to help, we got a bunch of help from Irish men, We couldn't have done it without them because, we ran into a few problems...
- While building, there were LOTS of mosquitos and many people were harmed by the mosquito bites.Also, many men got Malaria from mosquitos.Another problem is the mud was wet while they were digging and that caused it to keep refilling with mud when they were digging it out. Lastly, the workers did not have good food, and proper care.
- There was also some benefits, while building the canal, the mud froze in the winter and it made it easier to dig. Also, the cold drove away the mosquitos. Lastly, a benefit of the Erie canal is that it was an easier and quicker way to transport goods.
