The chapter ends with the Time Traveler escaping from the underworld and experiencing severe life-threatening symptoms because if he faints, he falls, he dies. He then reminisces about Weena and her kisses, the Eloi, and insensibility, after that, he is able to accomplish what he thought impossible and climb back up.
I'm not going to make the climb! I feel so nauseous, im going to faint!
In this part of the book, the Time Traveller goes underground to look for his time machine. He realizes that there are Morlocks looking at him because he can see their eyes because of the reflection in their pupils. The moment he lights the match he sees that the Morlocks evade and go away from him back to their tunnels meaning that they are scared for the light which would make sense as they are underground all the time.
Why do the flee with light? Why does the Overworld language not work with the Underworld language?
While the Time Traveller was traversing the underground world that he had recently discovered is none other than the home of the Morlocks, he discovered a plate of food on it. He assumes that it's for him but his first observation to make is that they're carnivorous. Meaning that the Morlocks would be the reason for there being no animals.
Of couse they're carnivorous!
