PROTEIN OATS
Scene 3: Falling for Pseudoscience
PRO
You find everything okay?
Absolutely!
A young girl is watching television when she starts to notice every girl appears to follow the same standards of having a thin figure with perfectly clear and radiant skin. She then reflect on herself and wonders why she does not fit these standards.
Scene 4: The Protein Oat Diet
Sweetie I made your favourite for dinner please eat some of it!
A commercial came on moments later that caught the young girls eye. The commercial advertised a newly found diet that consists of strictly protein oats that is said to help with weightloss and attaining a slim, desirable figure.
Scene 5: One Week Later
I don't understand, Ive been eating nothing but protein oats all week and I still look the same! What is wrong with me?
The young girl rushed to the supermarket in hopes she would find the key to becoming beautiful. She ran down each and every aisle until she finally came across the protein oats. She filled her basket up, preparing to start her new diet.
Stage 6: Behind the Scenes
Of course I will!
Can you make sure to photoshop me to have a small waist in that? Oh and make my lips look bigger so when I get filler I can say its natural.
From that moment on she ate protein oats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and even passed up her favourite meal of enchiladas in hope to achieve a beauty that fits the standards in the media.
No thank you mom I am only going to eat protein oats from now on!
A week had passed of strictly protein oats when the girl broke down in tears. She was starving and could not understand how the protein oat diet worked so well for the woman she saw on tv yet when she looks in the mirror she still sees the same little girl with imperfections.
What the young girl never knew was that the beauty standard being advertised by Protein Oats was unattainable as there was no scientific evidence to back the diet and facts being advertised by the company therefore making it a pseudoscience . Overtime women and men are told how they should and shouldn't look through the media and it is becoming more and more unattainable with the use of photoshop and enhancements. It is important we remember beauty comes in every shape and size and that trying to fit into desired beauty standards takes away our uniqueness.
