- maya and her family move from Kazakhstan to America. Her family faces many difficulties like jobs, money, school, language etc. Maya's parents aren't used to life in America and they have a hard time communicating with Maya and Nurzhan about stuff in America.
- Climax
- The teacher is handing out the permission slip for the spring fling dance. Maya hesitates as she takes the slip because she knows her parents won't let her go to the dance. She takes it anyways because she thinks that she shouldn't lose hope, no one loses hope in America.
- Falling Action
- Maya is scared as she walks to the office. She and her dad find out that Nurzhan got it into a fight. Since her dad doesn't speak english properly, Maya translates for him. She doesn't want her dad to get really mad infront of the principle so as she translates for him, she makes it sound like Nurzhan wasn't the cause of the fight and he was just defending himslef. She also said that the other boy is in trouble more than Nurzhan.
- Resolution
- Maya and her friend Shannon had a crush on these two boys. One day the boys lifted Maya and Shannon up, at first Maya felt weird but the more her crush started doing it the more she liked it. She started to feel comfortable in his arms and she didn't want to let go. One day Maya's dad saw them do that and he got ver angry. He took Maya and rushed home. Then he told her mom about what happpened and both of them made a very big deal about. Maya felt guilty, sad and helpless.
- MAYA!
- Things weren't going well for Maya in the first place until suddenly her mom broke her leg. Since then Maya hd to fill in for all her jobs and she had to cook food everyday. Maya was so exhausted of doing everything and on top of that she had to go to school.One day she was so tired that she cut her finger while peeling potatoes then she fell asleep and burned the chicken! Her mom also felt bad for making Maya do all the work.
- One day Nurzhan found the permission slip of the spring fling dance. He asked Maya about it and she told him that she'll throw it away because their is no point in even asking. Nurzhan took the slip and somehow convinced his parents to let Maya go to the dance. He came jumping to Maya and told her that she could go, only if he also had to go to chaperone her. She didn't mind because she was so happy that she was allowed. After that her relationship with her parents and Nurzhan got better.
