Declare how much you love me. I shall award you land based off your response.
Cordelia, how could you be so disrespectful to your father. Leave and never return,
Sir, I think you might be acting irrationally
I will still take Cordelia as my wife!
Maybe I shouldn't have acted so irrationally with Cordelia. I will see if Regan will treat me better.
"She'll taste as like this as a crab does to a crab" (I.v.18.).
In his aging years, King Lear decides to divide his kingdom between his 3 daughters. To decide who gets the most land, he encourages his daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia, to flatter him.
Enraged by Cordelia's response, Lear banishes her. Kent, Lears trusted advisor, attempts to reason with Lear which only further enrages him and Kent wounds up banned as well. Cordelia flees with her only remaining suitor, the King of France.
Kent departs to deliver a letter to Regan warning her of her fathers arrival. Lear begins to regret banishing Cordelia for such a little infraction. The fool believes Lear is making another foolish decision by expecting Regan to treat him any differently than Goneril.
