I have just sailed in from Ireland, Dublin to be exact. My name is Aidan. That is where I grew up to be a man and a farmer.
Unfortunately, we had to vacate our homeland after a growing problem with poverty and then our TERRIBLE potato famine.
But we have settled in great port cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston. We will work on different jobs, depending on location and gender.
I am an Irish woman living in New York, working as a servant. I am the husband of Aidan. My daughter has gone to work as a Lowell girl, so I guess I should not complain. From what I heard, their working conditions are downright atrocious! The little ones get worked long days even if they are just the age of a young school girl.
Our living conditions are tough as well because we came here to America, with no money! Alas, we will have to make due with my daughter's job, my job, and Aidan's job.
What is even more unfortunate is that the Irish kind is discriminated by the Americans who have already settled here. I hope that they can eventually grow more used and kind to us!
