- Whoo! The African Americans are finally free! This is what I've always fought for.

- How is sharecropping any better than being a slave? Freedmen are in this endless cycle of poverty and debt. This is no better nor fair!

- Now that all former slaves are citizens and equal under the law, I really hope that the national government will help them out and protect them.

- This is ridiculous! All people regardless of race should be treated equally and with respect!
- All people should be treated equal! If only the South had an extremely harsh punishment. Then they wouldn't be like this.

- I'm so happy that they have the right to vote and decide the fate of this nation. However, I think women should be included.
- Now that they can vote, Congress must ensure protection against poll taxes, literacy tests, and the horrible Grandfather Clause.
