On Chapter 20, page 211 Melba experienced reality for the first time her friend Marsha said "Melba, the truth is we're all afraid to come to your house, you gotta get used to the fact that you'all are just not one of us anymore." that's some you would never wanna hear when you are basically fighting for their rights.

Melba feared for her and the rest of the nine kids this day when she heard the guards say " we may have to let the mob have one of these kids so we can distract them long enough to get the others out" what if they actually did it the experience would of ruined her . hearing it is bad but seeing is worse.
