Russian peasants and farmers were suffering from famine. This was caused by Tsar, the ruler of Russia, and his ways of government. Since he had an autocracy rule, people had no say in government and the farmers were taxed to pay for the monarchs expensive ways of life
World War 1
Tsar Nicholas II maintained an authoritative power. This meant not everyone was satisfied with the reforms Tsar implemented. Some of these reforms were basic civil rights such as freedom of expression, universal suffrage, and creation of an elected legislative assembly
1917 Revolution
150,000 workers signed a petition hoping Tsar would see it and change the terrible working conditions. Unfortunately when delivering said petition Soldiers assumed it was a threat and killed 200 people (Bloody Sunday). This brought a revolution full of strikes and protests that didn't last too long. (1905 Revolution)

The outbreak of World War One in 1914 simply escalated issues - food shortages and strikes were common, poor leadership, massive losses in the war.
In February of 1917, mass demonstrations and strikes led to a revolution against Tsar. They protested about the food shortages and poor leadership the country was facing. This lead to the overthrow of Tsar and the rise of Lenin
