- The need for this reform was that the prisoner that were mentally ill and were punishment and not treatment
- Most of the cells were dirty, crowded, and they were whipped if they misbehaved.
- People that were not getting treatment when they should be getting treatment instead of getting yelled at
- With all of the information she gather she went to lawmakers voted to created public asylums for mental ill people
- Dix visit other states and she made reports and demanding humane treatment for the mentally ill and those states create special mental hospital.

- In 1841 is when Dix went to the prison to help teach the. But she found out how they were getting treated. She gather information for 2 years.
- She went to the jail to teach prison school and she notice how they were getting treated. And she decided to do something about it and she started to report the stuff that was happening
- Dix is the reformer who changed so people who were mentally ill were getting the help they needed.
