He also knew that the distance between the two other points was 60 feet. Coach Moore wanted the distance between the starting point and the other two points to be equal. Using the Pythagorean Theorem, he figured out that 240^2 + 60^2 =61200 . He also found out the square root of 61200 is 247.4 feet rounded to the nearest tenth.

- Jon threw the javelin. Coach Moore told Don that he threw the javelin at a 35-degree angle. When the javelin reached its highest height, Coach Moore said that it traveled 60 feet horizontally. Using trigonometry, he deduced that tan35 x 60 = 42 feet rounded to the nearest whole number. Coach Moore told Jon that, when the javelin reached its highest point in the sky, it was about 42 feet high.
