This is Crooks, Crooks received his name because of his crooked back. Not only was he named this but they discriminate against him due to him being African American. All Crooks wants is a friend. The American Dream says that everyone should be treated equally. This example is of Crooks living in the shed, which fails the American Dream.
This scene is of Lennie and George moments before Lennie's death. Lennie had killed Curley's wife making him angry with Lennie. Therefore, Curley wanted to kill Lennie, but George decided to do it instead. George wanted to do this as a friend, he thought it was a less painful way to die. So he shot him in the back of the head. Steinback shows how the American Dream fails once again, by using Lennie.
Here is Curley's wife, throughout the book, she is only identified as Curley's wife and doesn't have a name of her own. She wants to become famous but Curley, along with other men, gets in the way of that dream. This scene shows that women are treated as objects and property. Overall, Steinback uses Curley's wife as a way to prove the failure of the American Dream.
