  • American Revolution: The Stamp ActBy: Isaac 9-3
  • Back in 1765...
  • What should we do with our ongoing debt due to the costly Seven Years' War? We have been drained of all our wealth! We must also maintain British regiments. Perhaps getting more slaves?
  • Besides, I miss being all wealthy and having status.
  • King, what would you think about the idea of taxing our colonies further? This seems like the only reasonable method to solve it... They cannot stop us either!
  • Let's create a taxing policy called the Stamp Act! This will tax all Americans of their printed material and documents. We will make a hefty amount!
  • Your Majesty, that is a splendid idea! Let us enforce this act immediately! They cannot stop us! We will be rich!
  • The Stamp Act was enforced by British parliament in 1765 to replenish the financial hole the Seven Years' War against France left Britain in. Since the American colonists benefitted from the war as much as anyone else in the British Empire, the British government believed that those colonists should shoulder part of the war’s cost.
  • Have you heard about the new Stamp Act that's forcing us to pay taxes on essentially all printed materials and documents? How will us colonists survive?
  • The Parliament is abysmal! We had to pay for the Sugar Act taxes in 1764, and now this Stamp Act? Who has the money to pay for this?
  • How can we continue to live a lifestyle like this and eat good food?
  • I agree, this is insane of Britain to do. Us citizens and colonists in America will have an extremely hard time surviving against the constant taxing.
  • This is unacceptable! We must fight against Britain's power abuse, and retaliate! They have no right or say in taxing us without our consent. We aren't even well represented within the parliament! How can we even keep up with prices? It's barely fathomable!
  • The Next Day...
  • Hello sir, may I please purchase that book? Thank you. And may I know the price?
  • STAMPS FOR ALL PRINTED MATERIAL. YOU MUST PAY TAX.
  • Of course you can, sir. That will be $10 plus a stamp for tax. Your total then will be $14 dollars for this book.
  • S
  • Outrageous sir! I will not be paying immense amounts of taxes just for one book, without my consent! This is a joke! I am barely even represented in British parliament and they tax for no reason? I'm being robbed!
  • Then you know what? Forget it. I will not be purchasing this book today. Thank you for your help...
  • STAMPS FOR ALL PRINTED MATERIAL. YOU MUST PAY TAX.
  • I am afraid you have no choice. This is the law enforced by Britain. If you do not comply, you will face trouble.
  • S
  • I'm sorry son, but I couldn't purchase the book you wanted. It was too expensive. Because of the Stamp Act, I must pay a tax on top of what I already have to pay on all printed materials, and it's just too much money. We have to pay for food and the house too. I wish I could get that book for you.
  • It's okay, father. I understand that everything is so hard now because of the cursed Brits taxing us. Maybe we rebel against them and end this...
  • Tell your parliament to end this Stamp Act Madness right now! We have to pay so much tax on top of already expensive things. Put your greedy selves in our shoes and think about how much stress and anger we feel. Or else we will rebel!
  • Everyone stand down! Do not make me fire this gun! It is not in my power, nor is it my choice, but the parliaments. As a Loyalist, I do not find the need to complain to the parliament about YOUR problems. Whatever the British parliament wants is what shall happen!
  • Maybe now we'll get attention from Britain and they'll actually do something... They must repeal this nonsense!
  • How's that for the Sons of Liberty? We told you we would rebel! We cannot stand this unjustified taxation! No taxation without representation! Maybe now you Brits will listen to us and repeal the Stamp Act!
  • Take a look at us Britain! We will no longer tolerate or abide to your Stamp Act! We have rebelled and revolted, and refuse to pay the Stamp tax on our printed materials! There is nothing you can do about it. Repeal the Stamp Act now! We will continue to protest!
  • Look at us now! The colonies refuse to comply to the Stamp Act and have revolted, and look at what we're doing! Nothing! However, that we cannot do much! Our wealth efforts for wealth are going to be terminated! I have decided to put an end to the Stamp Act. What a shame.
  • Yes, Your Majesty, unfortunately we cannot stop them. It is apparent that our only option is to repeal the Stamp Act to stop the rebellion. We must find another method of income production...
  • Due to the constant pressure, rebellion, and revolt of the enraged colonists, the Stamp Act was eventually repealed in 1766, one year after it was passed. Mobs destroyed the houses of government officials, and Loyalists were often tarred and feathered, and on the extreme side, killed. Some officials, however, were brave enough to force people to use the stamps.
