Hi, My name is August Pullman. I am not an ordinary kid. I do ordinary things like eating ice cream and riding my bike. I have had 27 surgeries but none of them have made me look ordinary!
I was home schooled
This is my class and I. This is how I feel everyday... I always stick out!
"What's the deal with your face? I mean, were you in a fire or something?"
This makes me feel even worse than I already feel. I already didn't want to go to real school and now I have to deal with people picking on me !
"Why is your hair so long?" Julian said to me. He sounded like he was annoyed.
These rude comments that were from Julian are examples of people being curious about my face. All these mean comments are making me feel upset.
Another example of why I said that some people are not trying to be rude when there curious is the fact that he says: " "Hey, the truth is, if a Wookiee started going to the school all of a sudden, I'd be curious, I'd probably stare a bit! And if I was walking with Jack or Summer, I'd probably whisper to them: Hey, there's the Wookiee. And if the Wookiee caught me saying that, he'd know I wasn't trying to be mean. I was just pointing out the fact that he's a Wookiee."
I would be right there because I am the spotlight, I always stick out because I have an incredible amount of difference
"Mom? Am I always going to have to worry about jerks like that?" I asked. "Like when I grow up, is it always going to be like this?"
"What's cool about really little kids is that they don't say stuff to try to hurt your feelings, even though sometimes they do say stuff that hurts your feelings. But they don't actually know what they're saying. Big kids, though: they know what they're saying. And that is definitely not fun for me. One of the reasons I grew my hair long last year was that I like how my bangs cover my eyes: it helps me block out the things I don't want to see. "
