  • 1. INTRO
  • Hi! Today I'll be walking you through the nervous system, even right now I'm using my spinal cord to hold myself up and am using my brain to remember what I'm going to say. I hope you learn something along the way.
  • 2. REFLEXES
  • Here, you can see Mrs. Amelia tried to get up from her hospital bed but lost her balance. Luckily, her son Landon's quick reflexes caught her in time. The motor or efferent neurons allowed Landon to initiate his reflexes by carrying the signals away from the brain.
  • **Reflexes are bodily responses that don't need the brain to create action. How cool is that?! Notably, interneurons participate in a reflex so, because interneurons are in the spinal cord, there is more than one synapse occurrence.
  • NEURONS
  • Next, we'll talk about neurons. Neurons are responsible for carrying messages through the nervous system, which controls the functions of the human body!
  • An ambulance somewhat represents a neuron because it's job is to transport patients to the hospital where they can get treatment., just like what would've happened if Landon hadn't intervened.
  • Oh no! Looks like Landon wasn't careful and burned his arm a bit, but luckily he flinched and moved away in time thanks to his Sensory Neurons.
  • The skin color change on the burn area refers to reaction and stimuli, stimuli is something that evokes a response. So, the redness is the response to the stimuli of being burned. This is also called an afferent neuron.
  • SENSORY NEURONS & RESPONSE/STIMULI
  • Mrs. Amelia is feeling a bit better, she's trying to give a call to her sister, Hannah to tell her what a hero Landon was. This is a real life example of nerve impluses, because phone signals are working as she's calling.
  • Let's talk about nerve impulses! Nerve impulses are responsible for transmitting signals through the nervous system across a nerve fiber!
  • NERVE IMPULSES
  • Afterwards, when discussing the psychology of the events of the day, they started talking about the Peripheral Nervous System(PNS) which is the other part that makes up the nervous system. It contains the ganglia and spinal cord.
  • It also connects the Central Nervous System to organs, limbs, and skin. It can also serve as a communication relay between the brain and events.
