Nick Carraway visits the home of Tom and Daisy Buchanan for lunch. Nick encounters Jordan Baker, who informs him that Tom has a girlfriend in New York (Fitzgerald 18). Nick comes to comprehend Gatsby's departure when Jordan confesses to him that Gatsby once loved Daisy and wishes to reunite with her.

Nick agrees to ask Daisy to tea so that Gatsby may once again speak with her. Although Gatsby was excited to see Daisy again, he was deathly pale (Fitzgerald 92) since he did not know how she would react. Nick attempts to contact all of his friends after Gatsby's death but is found to be alone at Gatsby's funeral.
