- Ponyboy starts the novel with wishing to look like Paul Newman then comparing himself with the greasers.
- 4.Darry hits Ponyboy
- The soc was threatening Ponyboy but Darry came to defend him.
- 5. Johnny kills Bob

- Dally was harassing Cherry and Marcia (one of the soc's girlfriends) but Ponyboy and Johnny stopped him, right after Cherry finds Ponyboy interesting and told him that not all socs are like that."Things are rough all over"
- 6. Johnny and Ponyboy are at the church
- Darry hits Ponyboy for staying out too late with Cherry, Pony decides to run away from his house with Johnny following him eventually the socs followed him too.
- The socs caught Ponyboy at a nearby fountain (pretend that it is) and attempted to drown him, Johnny decides to stab that soc with his switchblade (pretend) he was carrying.
- After stabbing Bob Johnny and Ponyboy went to Dallas and asked for help, Dallas told them to go ride a train,look for the nearest church, and buy a supply of food. Johnny also agreed to change their hairs so they cant fit the descriptions.
