- Anyone with above average intelligence is required to wear a mental handicap radio. This radio will send out sharp noises to prevent you people from taking advantage.
- Present Time...
- That was a pretty dance, the dance that they just did
- George, a man of advanced intelligence begins to think about the ballerinas.....
- Ballerinas....They weren't that good. I mean not better than anyone else anyways. Their faces were masked. Ballerinas should not be handicapped.
- Thinking triggers....
- ooohOW! That is so loud. Why does thinking have to hurt?
- Stop trying to think so hard. You might out think someone. The government does not condone this.

- In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut wrote that the characters of the story who were intelligentlyadvanced had to wear a ear radio so they could be stopped from using their intelligence to an unfair advantage. This is an exaggerated and ridiculousfeature in the story, for the government does not have this kind of power. The government cannot punishpeople for having more abilities than others. This part of the story was put in to show how people in society might view others that are more intelligentthan them. Some people who see others as superior to them, or above them might go to vast lengths to preventthem from excelling. They might want to see their power being withheld or their capabilitiesbeing taken away so they do not have to suffer through that jealousy. They do not want to see others doing better than them.
