- In 1805 a deal was made between America and the French leader napoleon. Napoleon agreed to sell the New Orleans territory to Thomas Jefferson for 15 million dollars

- Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, made a plan the native people of America from their home and onto other pieces of lands known as Reservations to make way for white settlers. Native Americans would be forcefully removed from their homes if they refused to follow Andrew Jackson's order and were required to make an incredibly long and difficult journey that became known as the "Trail of Tears".

- New rules were added to the Mexican government that ruled Texas at the time, these new rules placed almost all power in the hands of the Mexican government, which angered Texans and they revolted. After the Texan revolt against General Santa Anna's strict rule over the Texans , people began to argue whether Texas should be an independent republic or join the United States.

- In 1846 the idea of Manifest Destiny began to spread across the US, which entailed that the US was destined to colonize all of America, from shore to shore. The only thing preventing The US from accomplishing this dream was that Mexico owned some of the territory that they were looking to include in their plan. US and Mexico fought for where the border should be, Mexico saying it should be at the Nueces river and the Us believing it should be at the Rio Grande river.
- The idea of Manifest Destiny had spread even more and many Americans believed that it was destined that America's territory should stretch from coast to coast. President Polk knew that the territory they needed to stretch from coast to coast was owned by Great Britain, President Polk pretended that he would wage war on Great Britain if they did not allow America to claim some of the territory, but he was bluffing and did not actually go to war with England. They agreed to extend the 49th parallel border and America claimed the Oregon territory.
- Americans were continuing to force the native people into small reservations and would fight with the native people if they did not sign the treaty to be moved. In Wounded Knee camp, US soldiers fired their guns at people of the Big Foot group and the result was 300 dead indigenous people.
