- To buy Jim a present Della would sell her hair one of her most prized possession other than Jim. So she sold her hair for $20.

- When they both got home they decided to exchange gifts. Jim got her some comes for her hair that Della has been wanting for forever and Della got him a chain for his watch.
- When they were don exchanging gifts they decided to put the gifts away they had no use for them because Lim had sold his watch to by the comes for Della.
