- In 1907 chemist, Leo Baekeland created the first synthetic plastic. Plastic became popularized during WWII because of it's cheap cost and it was easy to use and make make many different war materials. Plastic continued to move forward during the 60's and 70's as industries realized its vast ability to create millions of different products.

- Downsides of Plastic1. Only 9% of plastic made has been recycled, causing the other to thrown in landfills and into nature2. Many chemicals found in plastic are known endocrine disruptors which can cause reproductive issues, hormone imbalances, and cancer3. 1 in 3 animal species have been found entangled in ocean plastic4. Plastic in oceans are eaten by sea life, in which humans can ingest and with it consume plastic.5. Plastic can contaminate soil causing it to get into humans and animals food. 6. Some scientists suggest that humans might eat 5 grams of micro plastics in a week.
