- There are 6 tents A, B, C, D, E and F. Stanley gets assigned tent D and the tent F is for counselors. A younger and friendlier counselor than Mr. Sir, Mr. Pendanski, introduces Stanley to the other campers. Despite the fact that each has a nickname, Mr. Pendanski insists on referring to them all by their given names. Tent D thank him for his generosity by referring to him as "mom."
- Switches back and forth between Stanley's first day of digging a hole and the tale of the family curse brought about by his great-great-grandfather. Stanley finds it difficult to dig his hole on his first day out on the hot sun. His slow start causes him to develop finger blisters quickly, making the digging painful.
- When Stanley starts digging again, X-Ray interrupts and tells him to deliver him any interesting finds. Stanley agrees because X-Ray is the group's leader and needs his approval. After completing his second hole, Stanley goes back to the camp where he finds the other boys getting counseling from Mr. Pendanski. As the group discusses each boy's professional goals, Stanley joins them.
