- Nico, Kendall's boyfriend goes missing. He sat in the same desk as Tiffany. When Kendall walks by the desk, she hears Nico's voice, "Touch me. Tell no one. It's me" (pg. 155). There is new graffiti carved in the desk.
- Kendall hears Nico's voice yelling out in her mind. "Find me before he kills me! Thirty-five, one hundred!" (pg. 196)Kendall runs in the night to Cryer's Pass. Running in the dark woods. She hears a voice telling her to start digging. She has no idea what she is digging for. She see's a sign that says Cryer's Reform School for Delinquent Boys.
- Kendall counts 24 graves. The smell is awful. Makes her sick. She realized Nico is dead. She passes out. Jacian finds her and takes her out of the graveyard. The story goes that old Mr. Cryer would give thirty-five lashes for minor disobedience. One hundred for everything else. The souls of the dead boys were stuck in that desk, and only could come out if they found a body to enter. Tiffany and Nico were those bodies.
