David Julius Born on Brighton Beach, Brooklyn (United States) on November 4, 1955
He graduated in biology in 1977 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In 1984, he obtained a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Berkeley.
He is a professor at the University of California at San Francisco.
The discoveries of these researchers promoted a great deal of research that led to a deeper understanding of the cellular and molecular basis of the different sensations of how the nervous system perceives heat, cold, and mechanical stimuli
On October 4, 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine together with Ardem Patapoutian for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.
In 2000, he received the inaugural Perl-UNC Neuroscience Prize for his work on capsaicin receptor cloning.
During 2010, he won the Shaw Award for his work identifying the ion channels involved in various aspects of nociception.
Partner of Holly Ingraham, American physiologist of molecular physiology at the University of California in San Francisco. He is the father of Philip A. Julius.
