Charles Pillsbury was a flour mill industrialist. In 1869, Pillsbury came to Minneapolis to start investing in flour mills. By the time he was done Minnesota led the world in flour production.

The falls of St. Anthony in Minneapolis, Minnesota is where the flour mills were located. The falls created enough water power to run the machines.
Before the 1870s, flour was made from wheat that was speckled with brown flecks, not appealing. Pillsbury and other MN flour mill owners used improved machines that removed flecks and sped up production of better flour.
Now the flour will be transported to stores and people everywhere!
Is it time to bake?
The expanding railroads in Minneapolis and across a lot of the United States helped farmers ship their wheat to the mills and for the flour to be sold across the country.
There were thousands of people that worked in flour mills. The most skilled workers ran the dangerous machines. Flour packers were paid much less for unskilled labor.
Charles Pillsbury produced flour from wheat to make bread and baked goods. He turned Minnesota into the largest flour industry in the nation.
