Welcome to Indus River Valley 3300 BCE - 1300 BCE
Indus cities streets were neatly planned. Main streets were 10 meters wide, large enough to have elephants pass each other
Children in the indus valley liked to play with clay toys and pet animals like monkeys, birds, lizards and even snakes!
Along the sides of the streets were drains that lead to houses just like the ones behind me!
Indus Valley people had pictures of gods on seals and other artifacts but we don't know what they called them. One looks like a mother goddess. People might of believed this goddess gave health and fertility to people, animals and plants. Plants, trees and animals were probably important to Indus people.
The great bath
Hinduism has ritual bathing and the great bath in Mohenjo-Daro suggest people had different beliefs about purity. Some people believe the Indus religion shaped hinduism's beliefs
Seals were used as a tag on pots and baskets. Seals had elephants, rhinos, tigers, Indus gods, unicorns, and other strange creatures.
Indus Valley traders did not use money so they traded goods. Traders used flat pieces of stone with writing on it to use as a tag.
Farmers had to grow lots of food for the people in the cities. They prepared big fields by using wood ploughs pulled by oxen. Indus farmers understood the rivers. They planted seeds after the rivers flooded the fields making the soil rich. In winter and summer, they planted different seeds.
