- ALexander dies in 1286 when he was traveling from edinburgh to kinghorn in fife when his horse took a tragic fall of off the cliff.
- When alexander iii died it left no Male Direct Heir to the throne this meant that scotland was left without a leader. this meant that they had no choice but to appoint guardians so that Scotland had people that had the ability to make decisions and the correct ones for them.
- Travelling down the family line we found that ALexander had no children the throne could be passed down to, however who alexander did have was his gran daughter who was the maid of norway called margret,#160;
- It is a big ask, for margret to take on another country as she is only 3 and already ruling norway, if they tried to appoint margret they would have to appoint a man to give a male heir to the throne meaning she would have to marry someone she doesn't know.
- They made the decision to bring margret over as when you scan the family tree you will find she is the next in line even if she is a female, however when margret was travelling over from norway, as it was a long journey she got sick, and sadly died before reaching scotland.
- Now that The Maid Of Norway Margret has died, Edward i the king of england seen this is a chance to try and over rule scotland as the 6 guardians don't have the power to which a male heir to the throne does, when he seen they were easy push overs he made them accept him as overlord.
