- ¨Why not take the cheese, get them stowed, come back, throw open all the pens, and make a run for it.¨
- ¨Who are you? And where from?¨
- Odysseus and his men spend many days observing the land of the Cyclops from a distant island. During this time, Odysseus decides that him and his men must go to Sicily in order to see if the Cyclops are friends or enemies.
- ¨Cyclops try some wine. Here's some liquor to wash down your scraps of men.¨
- When arriving, Odysseus's crew says that they should simply take the Cyclops food and leave but Odysseus decides to stay and observe the Cyclops some more.
- When the Cyclops returns he finds Odysseus and his crew and devours two of Odysseus men.
- ¨Oh hear me lord, blue girdler of the islands, if I am thine indeed, and thou art father: Grant that Odysseus, raider of the cities, never sees his home...¨
- Odysseus begins his plan of escape. He starts by getting the Cyclops drunk, so that he can later blind the Cyclops by stabbing him in the eye.
- The next morning, Odysseus and his men escape by hanging on to the underbellies of sheep as the Cyclops let them out, because the Cyclops is blind. He tries to feel for the men, but only touches the sheep.
- While Odysseus is leaving, the Cyclops prays to his father, Poseidon. He asks the god to never let Odysseus return home.
