- Today I'm going to teach about Newton's laws!!
- But let me first start by defining these terms. Inertia is an object at rest that tends to stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. Mass is the quantity of matter in something. Force is a push or pull. Acceleration is how much speed changes in a certain amount of time. An action force is a force applied to an object. A reaction force is a consequence of an action force in the opposite direction. Equilibrium is the condition of a system when neither its state of motion nor its internal energy tends to change with time. Let's go outside so that I can show you Newton's laws are everywhere!
- Eric here is skateboarding really fast but then suddenly ends up on a rock. So once he got to the rock, his motion stopped. This shows Newton's first law which states, an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
- The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied. If an object has a large mass, it will have a slower acceleration but if an object has less mass, it will have a greater acceleration. This is known as Newton's second law.
- Newton's third law says, for every action force, there is a reaction force equal in strength and opposite in direction. Just like this book bag. The bag exerts a force on the table and the table reacts with an equal and opposite force.
