"For me this problem is like a war to preserve the Union"

William Seward
After the Battle of Antietam...
The victory at Antietam has paved the way for ending slavery in the South!
I will issue the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all enslaved persons in states still in rebellion after January 1, 1863.
All persons held as slaves within said designated States, are, and henceforward shall be free; and that the Executive Government of the United States will recognize and maintain the freedom of said persons.

"Here we are divided on this issue of slavery"
I oppose any measure you want to implement!
I come to summarize the argument in favor of the liberation of enslaved in an important speech.
George Julian
“When I say that this rebellion has its source and life in slavery, I only repeat a simple truism. The mere suppression of the rebellion will be an empty mockery of our sufferings and sacrifices, if slavery shall be spared to canker the heart of the nation anew, and repeat its diabolical deeds. ”
