  • The Sugar Act is an act that imposed taxes on imported items such as molasses and sugar. This also made it so that smugglers had harsh punishments. Many colonists like merchants protested this because it made getting imported goods more expensive.
  • Declaratory Act
  • The Quartering Act demanded that colonists house soldiers. The colonists had to give soldiers food and supplies to the soldiers. The colonists complained the British violated their rights and they had to use their own resources to support soldiers.
  • Townshend Act
  • The Stamp Act required colonists to have a stamp for multiple paper objects such as playing cards, legal documents, and newspapers. Colonists started petitions and boycotted British goods. Patrick Henry also delivered a speech that impacted many.
  • Writs of Assistance
  • The Declaratory Act stated that Parliament had full control over all the colonies. The colonists showed strong opposition to this because the British was in absolute control.
  • This hereby states Britain has full control over the colonies
  • The Townshend Act made it so that Britain can only tax imports to the colonies. The colonists revolted and boycotted British goods saying that they couldn't pose an internal tax.
  • The Writs of Assistance allowed officers to search buildings or businesses without telling the owner what they were searching for. Colonists saw this as another violation of rights.
