- The chapter is called Shylock the Jew, he says that in Venice, on the Rioalto bridge, merchants and bankers go to do business, so Bassanio is trying to borrow money from Shylock, using Antonio's credit, and Shylock tells him that Anthony is a good man
- So Shylock knows that Bassanio is poor but he has heard very good opinions from Antonio, but in reality he hates him because he is a Christian, he lends money for free and reduces the customary rate there with them in Venice.

- then Antonio told Bassanio that he hardly charges interest when he lends money, and he doesn't even pay it when he borrows, but for Bassanio's sake he was going to make an exception, and if Shylock lends Bassanio money, Antonio has to pay the interest
