Sea BattlesU.S. naval force captured six ships from the British on Lake Erie. This made William want to push into Upper Canada. There was a big battle and the British were defeated. The Americans were drove back across the border by the British in December.
The Battle of New OrleansSome of the British surrendered to U.S. forces 2 days before the attack on Baltimore so British had less desire to continue the war. British planned to attack New Orleans now. 2,000 British soldiers were killed or wounded, 70 Americans were killed or wounded. One of the greatest U.S. victories of this war.
Results of the WarBoth sides thought they won the war, but in reality neither of them won. The war made the Indians in the Northwest weak, which would force the American Indians out of their land over the next 20 years. The U.S. had national pride and believed that they had become a true sovereign nation. The Federalist's party was damaged and never recovered. William and Andrew were eventually elected as president.
