Liz! Do you have a second? I figured we could discuss the budget issue with technology now before the school day starts.
Can you give me an example of what you will teach with this technology?
Of course! Something that I love to use now is SeeSaw. It is a digital platform that allows students to post their own videos, written responses, and pictures for their classmates to see. It also works as a digital portfolio.
So, what technology do you want us to keep in the school?
I think that it is very important that students have access to chromebooks on a daily basis. So MUCH can be done to help educate students and prepare them for the world they will be living in with access to this type of technology in the classroom.
Integrating technology into this lesson just seems like you're using a cool toy to temporarily motivate the kids, but it will not help them learn in more meaningful ways. I can just give them candy if I want to temporarily motivate them. How is this technology going to help kids learn this lesson in ways that might not be possible without it? In other words, what is our return on investment beyond just temporary motivation?
The world that our students are living in is filled with technology -- when they enter the workforce, they will be required to communicate with others in a variety of different ways. SeeSaw, for example. allows the students to communicate their thoughts and ideas in multiple forms, something that will be valuable to them in the future. If technology is not integrated into our classrooms, our students will not be prepared for the society they will be living in.
