The Union had 35,000 men on the ground, while the Confederacy had 20,000. Despite having 15,000 less soldiers than the Union, the Confederacy banded together and devastated the Union flank.

The First Battle of Bull Run took place in three locations around Virginia. Virginia, Fairfax County, Virginia, and Prince William County, Virginia were the three. The Union launched its first strike in Virginia's Prince William County. The majority of the action took place around Manassas. Bull Run was the Union's moniker for the battle, hence the name.
