Do I have the Flu? I haven't come in contact with anyone? Why do I feel sick?
Hey doc Ed, I've been feeling really sick with fevers and muscle aches. I haven't been in contact with anyone sick, do you think I have the flu?
Seems like you might have contracted HIV from her. To confirm we will do a cheek swab test.sounds like you have HIV.
Well my ex-girlfriend mentioned she had HIV during one of our fights, I thought she was joking!
Well, Bob have you been in contact with someone who carries HIV?

Bob's Antibody cells to HIV
POSITIVE FOR HIV
Bob doesn't know it yet, but he is showing symptoms of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus aka HIV. These symptoms include: fever, chills, rash, light sweats, muscle aches, Sore throat , fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, mouth ulcers
I'm going to get a colleague of mine to assess what we do in the future as she specializes in HIV treatment.
Unfortunately Bob, you have contracted the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
What?! How could this happen, am I going to die?
HIV is typically tested through gathering sample cells through a cheek swab to identify the presence of antibodies to the virus. HIV tests vary in how soon they are able to detect infection.
Can you help explain to my Patient Bob who has contracted HIV how everything works?
Sure!! Let me get my notes.
From the time Bob contracted HIV to when his antibodies are able to be detected is known as the window period. It could take your body 3-12 weeks to produce enough antibodies for a test to detect the HIV infection. After a positive initial result a follow up testing is necessary to establish and HIV diagnosis.
After diagnosis, Bob will likely not die as HIV left untreated can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). While death rates from AIDS have declined globally, the condition decreases your bodies ability to fight off infections—which can lead to death. Unfortunately there is no cure for HIV, even with treatment as HIV is a chronic condition that requires lifelong disease management.
From Bob's statement on box #3, his ex-girlfriend was the one who passed the virus down to him. HIV can transmitted through sexual intercourse with someone who has HIV, sharing injection or drug equipment, such as needles, with someone who has HIV, from mother to child during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding, Getting stuck with an HIV-contaminated needle or other sharp object.
