- So Steven, What is this movie about?
- This movie is based on a true story during World War 2 about a group of soldiers who were given a mission to save a single soldier.
- Why are they saving this one soldier?
- This soldier had three other brothers who all died during the war. He was the only son left and the government didn't want to give his mom another folded flag.
- How did the government find out he was the only brother left?
- All the deaths of soldiers are recorded so that they're families can know what happened to them. Three soldiers with the same last name all died. This news spread up the ranks in the government until it reached George Marshall. He was informed that there was another brother who was still alive and gave the mission to save him.
- Okay, then this group of soldiers are given a mission to find this soldier?
- Yes but his last known whereabouts were on a plane that crashed somewhere miles from the group of soldiers.
- So they only have a general idea of where he is and they go on a wild goose chase looking for him?
- Yes, but in finding this soldier they earn their freedom and get to go back home. The only problem is their in a war and not everyone in the group is going to make it out alive.
- Do they eventually find him? Also, when they do find him does he agree to leave or does he want to stay?
- Yes they find him but he doesn't want to leave. He argues that if he gets to leave then so should everyone but orders are orders. He agrees to leave but only after the bridge his group was protecting is safe. Whats left of the group that was looking for him stay and help defend the bridge but in doing so, many lives are lost. The bridge was protected and the soldier made it out alive and got to go home. The captain of the group who was looking for him told the solder to earn getting to go home and earn the life given to him by soldiers who sacrificed themselves for him. At the end of the movie the soldier is old and is at the grave of the captain. He says that he's lived the best life he could and hopes that he earned the life they gave to him.
