  • Hey Mr. Flower I have this science report that I need to ace. Can you tell me what Cellular Respiration is?
  • Of course! Cellular Respiration is a process which allows plants, people and animals to take glucose and turn it into energy!
  • How does Cellular Respiration begin?
  • It all starts with glycolysis. Glycolysis is the process in which glucose and pyruvic acid break apart!
  • What happens next?
  • Through this whole process, NAD+ and FAD carry electrons to the electron transport system.
  • The product of this process travels to the Krebs Cycle where the oxygen is added!
  • Cellular Respiration is what cells do to break up sugars to get energy they can use. This occurs in all forms of life. Cellular Respiration uses food to create ATP, a chemical which the cell uses for energy.
  • After that?
  • After that, protons are pumped into the inside of the matrix to the outer layer. The hydrogen ions get packed into the inner membrane and go through a process called ATP Synthase to create ATP.
  • Glycolysis is the process where a glucose molecule is broken down to form two molecules of pyruvic acid. Glycolysis is a process that occurs in cells and other cells of microorganisms.
  • What exactly is ATP Synthase?
  • Good question! ATP Synthase is the process in which protein completes the Oxidative Phosphorylation Process.
  • The ATP and NADPH is used by the calvin cycle as energy for converting carbon from the atmosphere into simple sugar glucose. Through the cycle a citrate is oxidized, releasing two carbon dioxide molecules for each acetyl group fed into the cycle.
  • Wouldn't that mean oxygen is essential for the whole process to function properly?
  • Your going to ace this report!
  • The electron transport chain and ATP synthase are embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane. The electrons flow through the electron transport chain, causing protons to be pumped from the matrix to the intermembrane space. The electrons are then passed to oxygen, which combines with protons to form water.
  • ATP Synthase is an enzyme that generates ATP during the process of cellular respiration. ATP Synthase forms ATP from ADP and IP through oxidative phosphorylation, which is a process in which enzymes oxidize nutrients to form ATP.
  • Oxygen is essential for the process of a functional and efficient Cellular Respiration . Almost all organisms need oxygen to release energy from food for the cell to use.
